Calvert County Homes for Sale

Calvert County is located just below Anne Arundel County, and is it's own little peninsula! On one side is the Chesapeake Bay and on the other is the Patuxent River. Within the bounds of Calvert County are places like Dunkirk (read more about Dunkirk here), Sunderland, Cape Leonard, etc. I will be referencing a list of the Best Places to Live in Calvert (brought to you by Niche.com) for first hand accounts of what it's like to live in Calvert County from residents.

Let us begin with #1, which is actually Dunkirk, but since we already have a whole page dedicated to Dunkirk (it's one of our big hubs of real estate) I suggest you head on over there to read all about. For the purpose of this list, #1 will actually be Chesapeake Beach. Located right along the Bay, just south of North Beach, this sparse suburbia is just waiting for you to call it home. Residents boast of great schools, lovely beaches, delicious restaurants, and a variety of shops to choose from. There's a boardwalk for taking nice long strolls down the beach - like a small town Ocean City. Chesapeake is probably best for those without little kids, as there isn't much for them here, but teenagers and adults will have plenty to do!

In the second spot on our list is Owings! It is right smack dab in the middle of the peninsula, so sadly no waterfront, but the water is a hop, skip, and jump if you ever want to go to the beach. It is also a very rural area, plenty of room to roam. This also means that even though there are enough places to dine in, there aren’t many entertainment opportunities and retail establishments. This is mostly a quiet place, great if you’d prefer to be secluded from the bustle of city life.

Third on the list is Huntingtown! Also a rural place away from city life, but still a decent commute to Washington D.C.. Furthermore, it’s central to the county so not the waterfront, but close to the boardwalk and surrounding beaches. Not very good in the entertainment area, but they do have a bowling alley and a few mom and pop shops. Recent construction brings the possibility of more things to do in the area. Residents say they love the small town feel and that it’s a great place to raise kids due to the good schools.

Of course if none of these places fit your fancy you can always settle down in Another Place or Mutual Consent! (yes, these are actual towns in Calvert County) Overall Calvert ranks #2 in Best Counties to Live in Maryland (according to Niche).
